Sameer Rizvi IPL Auction 2025- Price, Team & Highlights

India’s own young cricketer Sameer Rizvi was one such name that gained a lot of attention for the domestic player during his auction.

The Meerut maidens first came into the spotlight in the 2023 UP T20 League, where the batter played for the Kanpur Superstars, making him the first to make two centuries in the tournament. He was on the IPL’s radar list even before the 2024 auction due to his performances.

That turned out to be a big pay-off. Gujarat Titans pulled out the muster to bid against Chennai Super Kings for Rizvi in the IPL 2024 auction, but they ended up paying ₹8.40 crore for him.

Then, his IPL career hit a new phase during the mega auction of 2025, when he was acquired by Delhi Capitals for ₹95 lakh. He then demonstrated his ability in the form of a 25-ball unbeaten 58 against Punjab Kings.

He made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy when he was just 16 years old, and made his List A debut in the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He can be seen in this IPL season, according to the Star Utsav movies schedule.

He has played for Kanpur Superstars and scored 455 runs in nine innings with two centuries to his name. That one of the hundreds came off was done in just 47 balls and was the quickest century of that tournament.

He was one of the most awaited young hitters due to his ability to hit the ball quickly, especially at spin.

The performances eventually turned into a big opportunity for them at the IPL auction.

Why Did CSK Pay ₹8.40 Crore for Sameer Rizvi?

Rizvi’s valuation was tied to the chessboard and many of his abilities.

Sameer Rizvi Batting Style

The Sameer Rizvi style of shooting is all about attacking strokeplay, especially against spin.

A right handed batsman with a good temperament for big shots and footwork against spinners. He was a good player to be able to come into the middle order and hit the ball off the rack.

His style was also compared with former CSK and India batsman Suresh Raina. Rizvi was frequently likened to Raina due to his attacking style and skills to dominate spin.

But comparisons of that sort are more apt to be a style observation rather than a judgment of the two players.

Sameer Rizvi’s IPL Debut and 2024 Season

Rizvi debuted for Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 season of the IPL.

He made his debut for the IPL team Gujarat Titans, but he was bowled out without scoring.

He had limited playing time during the season, and often played as an Impact Player.

He had one of his more notable contributions against Rajasthan Royals, with him playing on the heels of the Royals and not getting bowled to make CSK just 15 runs short of the target.

He also made a few appearances as CSK tested out its mid-order line-ups.

Sameer Rizvi IPL Performance in 2024

Rizvi was unable to get much playing time during the IPL 2024. It was more about getting used to the tempo and intensity of the franchise cricket format than proving that he was a regular starter.

Sameer Rizvi IPL Team 2025

Sameer Rizvi has seen his price fluctuate in the first two seasons of the IPL.
